To Everything There is a Season.....

*

*

For two winters I have had to endure ridicule from Blaine and Fred (my therapist) for wearing my Bass Pro Shop's "Pro-Line" rubber fishing boots everywhere I go. And for two winters I've told them that the boots keep my feet warm in cold weather, and they're especially useful whenever it snows---they are perfect snow boots.

Fred didn't "ridicule" me overtly---he just remarked that I "stood out" wearing the boots with a Kansas City Chief's jacket. And I know that he really meant that they were weird boots to wear anywhere except to go fishing.

Anyhoo, today there was a sale at Jo-Ann's----and sure enough, there, in a blazing picture in Jo-Ann's sale paper, there they were....summer gardening boots!!

And I SO want to see the look on Fred's face when I walk in wearing these with a Mizzou jacket.

You have so much more nerve than I do!

To Anonymous - What does it matter? Not everyone likes to have pictures taken. My own is from about 2000 when my daughter insisted she had to get a picture of me since I rarely allow mine to be taken.

THank you, Cindy!!

This isn't my blog, but let's keep the rivalry friendly! No need for personal comments. And I love the boots, especially the polka dot ones!

I decided to erase permanently those immature "Anonymous" commenters who just wanted their 15 minutes of fame by being on my comments page. I got rid of your asses.

And for the record: It is a TIE between Canada and the US because we won against them once and they won against us once. Don't know if anybody knows what the rules of play are, but this situation means that a tie-breaker game should be played.

And...American DID get waaaay more medals than Canada, which means the caliber of our athletes is higher.

So take that, all you rude Anonymouses!

I am totally jealous of your boots. I want some too! Unfortunately I have perfectly horrible feet and can't fit in regular shoes. I really really really want your boots.
Stomp, stomp, stomp.

My anonymous post about liking your boots is still up, but anything I posted about Canada is gone. Nothing was immature about my posts. Nothing was written to bait you. You showed your national pride by posting, more than once, that the States won the most gold medals and owned the Olympics. The fact is, Canada set a record for the most gold won at a winter games. The US set a record for the most medals won. What is immature about that? You love your country, I love mine. As for it being a tie, technically yes, but that is not the way tournaments are set up.

Tottergirl: Jo-Ann's has these boots in 3 sizes, small, medium, and large. I'm sure you could find one of the sizes that will fit you. Just wear think socks when you try them on. (I had to sit on the floor to take off my shoes and then put on the boots---and did I get some stares. But what did they expect for trying new boots on?

Thank goodness we won all those medals. It just about makes up for all the horrible things that our country is responsible for. Oh, wait no it doesn't. Pride in our country isn't a bad thing, but you are showing a lack of sportsmanship that is disappointing in someone who claims to be a patriot. It's obvious that your patriotism has more to do with your issues with certain Canadians that it really has to do with true patriotism.

To Sylvia:
The minute, and I mean the actual 60 seconds minute, that the buzzer sounded to end the hockey game where Canada won, I got a bunch of rude comments rubbing it in my face. And I'm the kind of person who doesn't take any shit from rude people. So I reacted to them like the assholes they are. Later, I thought about it, and I took all the comments to me and from me down, except for the comments that weren't rude. One person who I thought had left a negative comment commented again, with a message that was more diplomatic. She wasn't happy with my behavior either, but she was polite with her opinion as well as being totally logical. So I printed her comment.

And that's the thing. If somebody comes off as an asshole, I will tell them off in a New York minute. But if somebody comes off more good natured and with some class, like the person I mentioned above, and they aren't trying to be an asshole, I will print their comment and consider their opinion as being valid.

I will concede that you might have a point. Because I have no argument with the Canadian people as a whole. But there are some Canadians who I can't abide due to anti-Americanism. And I'm not only talking about YH. I experienced a lot of anti-Americanism from Canadians in my life overseas as a diplomatic brat. Canadians were often very rude to us diplomatic Americans.

So there you go---and you can think what you like.

Because of old injuries, I wear heavy hiking boots for any amount of walking or standing. They allow me to walk without pain. Nothing else works. So when people whisper and stare as I pass by their chairs while walking on the beach, I tell myself that at least I am up walking and that is all that counts. I treasure my ability to walk, even if I am not in style. I know they look strange, but I only care that I can walk. So enjoy your boots if they make your walking more pleasant.

Thank you, Mary!

Ha ha ha ha ha! Being a farmer myself, I can completely understand the utility of a good pair of rubber boots. I think my sheep might laugh me out of the barn if I fed them wearing polka dot boots. They are pretty snazzy, though. :-)
