Things To Do On A Rainy Day....

*

*

Bought a ticket for a runaway train,

Like a madman laughin' at the rain

Little out of touch, little insane

Just easier than dealing with the pain

("Runaway Train", Soul Asylum)

Woke up to a totally stormy, rainy day. The rain drops have been alternating with periods of pea-sized hail. Perfect, I thought to myself. And although I know most people prefer sunny, nice days....

I absolutely adore bad weather--- because it gives me an excuse to moon around in a breathless melancholia.

So I lit a scented candle....

And I poured myself some coffee.

(But I poured it quickly---because I have never liked this self-grinding coffee bean contraption that Blaine bought. I think it's looking at me....and one day it wouldn't open the big flap that allows the machine to grind the beans. I actually told it to "Open the Pod Bay Door, Krups".....)

And then, due to a total burnout on the Little Red Riding Hoodie, I am taking a few days away from it in order to gather my wits about me for the next phase on the thing.

So today I am playing with the pieces of the camouflage cardigan I started on the USM. I took the sleeves off the machine to hand knit a picot trim on their wrists--- and then pinned them to the top of the body's shoulder to calculate the total length I'll need. (Once I figure that math, I'll re-hang them onto the USM and knit the rest of them.)

(And yes, I did want a wide sleeve wrist with a picot edging instead of ribbing. I know it doesn't match the bottom of the cardigan but I just felt like doing something different. I'm going to do the buttonbands differently, too. And I'm going to put a hood on this thing.)

Also this morning, I watched the launch of the Space Shuttle "Discovery"---and I got tears in my eyes. I love how my country is so strong, always striving to a higher level in every aspect of our culture, including NASA's reaching towards the moon and the Space Station.

When I was a tiny tot, while my father was in the US Army, he frequently worked on NASA projects. It was a couple years later that he was accepted into the Foreign Service Diplomatic Corps and began taking our family around the world.

But the current President is going to stop the space program---so I only have a launch or two left to watch.....

And below is the way that Little Baby deals with rainy days.....I guess I'll have to tell her the particulars of the launch later, when she wakes up.

How did Easter dinner with the family go? I love rainy days too...I feel vindicated for staying in all day, just puttering about.

You know, Terri, I just couldn't bring myself to go.

After all that happened with everybody waiting for the SIL to call, like every Easter, to tell us what time to come, what to bring, etc. Blaine's sister, Lexie, finaly got through to her on the phone.

Lexie told me that when she finally talked to the SIL, the SIL begged to have it at Lexie's place---even though it's always been at the SIL's home for the last 15 years. And furthermore, she had waited to ask about this on the Thursday before Easter.

The last time (2 years ago) this SIL had asked to have a family dinner at Lexie's house was just after I had reunited with Blaine. In fact, she begged Lexie because she didn't want me in her house.

So I figured that part of this was about her not wanting me to come over.

But Lexie refused to have it at her house at this late date---3 days ahead of time. She hadn't had time to prepare, etc.

Also, the SIL asked Lexie to call me and Blaine to inform us of what time to come and what to bring, etc. But Lexie refused. She said it was the SIL's responsibilitiy to call since it was her house.

But the SIL's husband (Blaine's brother) called instead, giving Blaine a food assignment to bring (pie). And no food assignment was given for me, even though it's always been my assignment to make my green bean casserole.

At that point I consulted with my mother. She said "under no circumstances are you to go to such a rude person's house---she has broken every etiquette rule there is for Easter Dinner and obviously doesn't want you there."

So I didn't go! Blaine asked me what he was supposed to say when everybody asked about me and I told him to tell the truth.

So Blaine told them: "She doesn't feel welcome here."

And that's that. Be interesting to see how the 4th of July goes...

(And thank God it happened that way---because I didn't want to go anyway!)

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Your SIL sounds like a real piece of work. And I do not blame you for not going. No one needs that kind of toxicity in their life.

Thank you, Terri!

I question the veracity of your statement that the current administration plans to end the space program. The space shuttle has been flying regular missions since 1981 and the last shuttle flight was scheduled long before the current President took office. In fact, this month the President plans to speak at a conference outlining his vision for the future of NASA, which includes a manned space expedition to Mars.

Do you have a citation that is not politically one sided? I like to be informed and educated by unbiased sources.

Bo... said...

Uh...Rayleen? I have very strong opinions about many things political. MANY. (I grew up in politics.) And I don't give a damn whether you call that biased, politically one-sided, educated, or whatever. And if you're spoiling for a fight over the incompetent idiot in chief, Obama, well you came to the right place. He has done NOTHING but apologize to rogue countries, making our country appear weak to the rest of the world. Next, he is also trying to usher in socialism. Next, he is putting our country in debt that we'll never be able to get out of. And next, there are a lot of people (including me) who will NOT believe he's really a citizen of America until he shows his REAL birth certificate, school records, college records, and other documents that other Presidents were happy to provide. What is he hiding?

And oh yes, the only thing he appears to be able to do is to make speeches that others with more brains write for him.

You are a Birther too??? hahahaha! Oh lordy, my side hurts I am laughing so hard. Your entertainment value just went through the roof. Let me get my popcorn, this is going to be good.

BTW, I hate Obama too.

Bo... said...

If he has nothing to hide, then why won't he make his documentation public---like every other President of the United States of America has? Seriously, why won't he? He won't show his university & post graduate documentation because it will show he received financial aid under the category of "a foreign student". That would open a can of worms. And I don't care who laughs at those of us who question his citizenship. This country has become so gullible that they won't realize they're in deep trouble until much more terrible things happen. This is only the beginning. You should get your Bible out and read it---along with some interpretations of the Book of Revelation. Like I said, this is only the beginning...

And just what "entertainment" are you going to sit back and watch? I am not ashamed of my views nor do I care if I'm laughed at. And if I get hatemail I'll simply delete it---so there goes your entertainment. I have decided that only serious commenters will be published here. And I'm seriously thinking about removing your comment.

Bo, why are you stereotyping me because I ask a question about your source? Why are you judging me for something I may or may not be? Why do you assume I'm "spoiling for a fight?" What's wrong with educating ourselves from unbiased sources?

Bo... said...

Rayleen: It wasn't the issue you raised, it was your tone. You came across as sarcastic. But if I am wrong, then I do apologize. Sometimes things said in print carry across differently than they were meant. As for my sources, there were tons of them all over the place and I just picked one that expressed some of the same thoughts that I have.

Rayleen, read this one, too:

I'm sorry my tone was read as sarcastic, that was not my intention. I think it's easy to misinterpret what is said in print, especially if you're expecting a fight. Don't forget, not everyone is the enemy! We can debate and agree to disagree and still be friends.

I'll look for more info online, thanks for the links.
