Update on Little Red Riding Hoodie, and 2 Sock pictures

*

Above is the update on the Little Red Riding Hoodie. I'm currently making stripes of the colors at the top of the garment, because it's a drop-shoulder garment and I want the stripes to be at the top of the sleeves as well. You can click on the pictures in this post to make them bigger in order to look at the detailing.

The pain in the rear part is below----I have to duplicate stitch the middles of every flower since I didn't want to knit with 3 colors in a round. (I will knit with 2 colors per round for fair isle technique but not three or more colors. Whenever I've tried it, it messed with my brain and some projects got hurled into the nearest wall...) I am also having to duplicate stitch the one piddly little top stitch of the dang flowers' stems, too.

And I am totally befuddled as to why my duplicate stitches look like crap. I follow the intructions religiously---but my duplicates do NOT look like what they're supposed to. It irks me no end.

Also, I've designed a couple of socks and just thought I'd stick the picture here. Their patterns are for sale. The sock below is called the "Scarecrow Sock" since it looks like something a female scarecrow would wear. The smocking is easy (knitted smocking is really just a 2x2 ribbing with an added step of wrapping around some stitches regularly) and hugs the leg and foot nicely.

The sock below is the Love Knot Socks. They have a lacy ribbing at the top and there's one cable that goes down the side of the heel.

Here's a closeup of the stitch pattern and ribbing. I don't know why in the heck I knit them in Opal "Clown" because I think it doesn't show off the detailing very well. This pattern is for sale, as well.

And now......back to knitting on the Little Red Riding Hoodie....

P.S. Since writing this post I have gotten some really good advice from my friend Cindy about how to do the duplicate stitch correctly, and so I ripped out the crappy ones shown in the pics above-- and now I'm doing duplicate stitches correctly--Yay!

Bo - wish I was there to try to help you with the duplicate stitch in person, but will try to talk you through it. When I do duplicate, I come up in the center where the 2 legs start at the bottom, then I stick my needle through behind the 2 legs of the stitch above it - coming out either on the left or right depending on which way I am doing it. Then down into the same spot that I started in - I am dulicating the individual V stitch that I had knitted. Then if I am doing the one above that, I come up in the middle of that V, go up to the top of the V of the above stitch & go behind & come out on the other side following the top of that V, then back down in the spot I came up in for that one. Make sure you always match the gauge of the stitch that you are stitchin over. You want each one to look like 1 individual knitted stitch - look above to the ones where you have 1 stitch by itself in a color to see what you are looking for.

This page gives you a picture by picture of doing it. As you can see, you just want to cover up the actual knitted stitches so that it looks like you actually used that 3rd color in there. http://knitting.about.com/od/knittingskills/ss/duplicat_stitch.htm

BTW - love the socks & the sweater!

Thank you Cindy!!!

Cindy/KS said...

YW Bo! Does that mean that it made sense that way to you? I used it once to put initials on sweaters for my kids. Think I may have also used it for a nephew's sweater once as well, but that was a long time ago, so don't remember for sure. I can maybe take a picture later if you need to see a good picture of it done on an actual item.

and you have the balls to criticize someone else's work.

Bo... said...

It totally made sense and I'm practicing it right now!

Bo... said...

To Anonymous above:

As a matter of fact, I have the balls to do a lot of things.

I'm glad & will be looking forward to seeing new pictures of it! I know for me, I am a visual learner & someone can tell me something all day & I might or might not pick up on it, but if I can read it or see pictures of it being done 1 step at a time, I can get it.

Bo... said...

To Cindy/KS: I ripped out the duplicate stitch I did on those two flowers and am going to redo them with your directions and the help of the video!

Cindy/KS said...

At least she isn't such a coward she is hiding who she is!

Bo... said...

Seriously, Cindy, these crazy Anonymouses are deranged.

Cindy/KS said...

Deranged & cowards!

Looking forward to seeing it & will be happy that for once I don't feel like I am so far behind you in knowledge! I just don't experiment as much - more likely to start with a pattern, even if I make changes.

c'mon I DARE you!!!!!!!!

Bo... said...

Anonymous, you are so annoying that you're starting to grow on me. But you have failed to understand the main thing which causes me to refuse to show my pic:

1. So you can find something about me to critize.

2. So you can get even with me for saying that YH's sweater was a rush job and the sleeves were too short.

3. So you can attempt to make me feel bad.

4. And so you can get me to do something you want me to do.

Okay, aside from 1 through 3, they are no big deal to me. But as for No. 4, I will NEVER do anything you "command" me to do. No way, Jose. I do not do what YOU want simply because you're goading me to do it.

If you Anonymouses had asked nicely, I might have done it. But you didn't ask nicely. You asked in an asshole way like the assholes that you are.

So....too bad, so sad......

Anonymous said...

guess Bo is not up to the challenge
YH sweater is perfect by the way, looks gorgeous, fits beautifully and re
1. you criticize others but you can't take criticsism?
2.don't need to "get even" on YH's behalf (you are the one who keeps bringing her up by the way)
3. don't feel the need to make you feel bad, just want to see the knitted stuff "on"
4. it was a dare not a command and apparently you're not up for it
chicken shit!

Anonymous said...

so is this where you start spelling fuck off in caps again?

Bo... said...

To the Anonymous above, over my comment:

No, I can spell it in little letters. Like this: fuck off you slimy, snot-nosed, coward.

In fact, you Anonymouses are ALL COWARDS, because you yourself are hypocritical for not giving your real name nor showing a pic of yourself. You expect me to do it but you sure won't do it yourself.

Sooooo......you're not only a slimy snot-nose, but you're also a slimy, snot-nose HYPOCRITE.

I love reading your blog for one reason alone. It assures me that I can't possibly the craziest person on the planet.
Because that's you-- hands down.

Anonymous said...

First of all, I like your socks! I have a "friend, of sorts" who loves nothing better than to be surrounded by controversy. It's exhausting for her and everybody around her. See any parallels? I notice YH doesn't react to you, so why bother criticizing her? I just don't get it.

Anonymous said...

I love the way you edit out the comments you can't handle...

Anonymous said...

I think your blog is a pretty cute way of having a make believe life and having others play into it...I think I'll make one up too...I'm going to pretend I am an ER nurse who has lived all around the world, then decided to be a model and a famous knitting designer, then for some excitement I will toss in that I am under psychiatric care, an alcoholic and a hoarder...
oh wait that has been done....to death!!!!

Bo... said...

LOL! Like Maren said, you guys are SICK and just want to stalk me like you wanted to stalk my therapist. (Speaking of which, the mobile therapist is taking me to swim in the pool on Thursday!) But back to me, my favorite subject. Oh, and to the person who said they wanted to be "an ER nurse, a model, lived all over the world, and is a knitting designer, well what of it? I'm everything I claim to be. When I went to college, I wasn't allowed to put my name and address in the student directory nor the yearbook. Our house (wherever we lived) was highly fitted with alarm systems. Our phones were always bugged overseas and it used to bug my mother no end whenever I'd say real loud: "Speak directly into the radiator, Mom!" Heh, still cracks me up.

I've been to more places, seen more wondrous things, and experienced more tragedy overseas than you people can imagine in your boring little lives.

And I couldn't care less how much you criticize me. And FOR THE RECORD, in my opinion, the sweater was knitted too small and the sleeves too short!

Anonymous said...

I think you've had way more than your share of the limelight
I'm done
and for the record
go F.U.C.K. yourself

Bye bye---don't let the door hit your ass on the way out!

So long! Heh! Heh! Heh!!!

And Ha Ha! You couldn't take me, could ya? I knew I'd wear you down sooner or later! What a snot-nose little coward you are!!

Yeah, you heard me---a snot-nosed little coward!!

Bo, first off, ignore the buggerheads!

I love your beautiful, wonderful, crazy knitted stuff. Heck, I love beautiful, wonderful, crazy you! :-)

I just started learning to knit this past weekend. One day I hope to be as good as you. Right now, I knit this "thing" and I keep adding stitches, and don't know how! Oh well, I'll get it one of these days.

Keep your chin up and keep up the wonderful knitting!

Bo... said...

Thank you so much, Tottergirl!!! It means a lot to me---you've cheered me up!

Anonymous said...

Hello....yes, it is true I came your way from the YH thing...and, for some reason, I check in daily to see what you and 50 other knitting blogs I "read" are up to. I am a looooong time knitter, reader of knitting blogs, Ravelry first generation, no blog owner and.....rarely...I mean I can count on two fingers....post a comment anywhere. I guess I don't think my opinion, thoughts, feelings and such need to be shared. I do want to come out of my cave here to say that all this "back 'n forth" that is being posted...although amusing at first, is now just plain the dark side of blogging and a huge turn off to what makes all this work in our craft lives in the first place. Women hurting other women...for fun, for sport, for ego, for I don't know what.

Since I don't have a blog, I'll sign this with my first name. Please everyone....we came together as fiber lovers, appreciators of creativity and uniqueness. Hurling darts at each other....as if our comments on either side of this should mean anything...is ridiculous.

Mel said...

To the anons who think it's fun to poke/bait the crazy person:

Shame on, you. Didn't your parents teach you manners? How can you call yourself a human being if you have no compassion? You're acting no better than a school yard bully, or those "mean girls" in high school who think it's fun to pick on the people who are "different." And don't say, "Well, she started it." That's just juvenile and no excuse, especially for an adult.

Mental illness is NOTHING to laugh at. Remember that the next time you hear of a depressed person (possibly someone you know)committing suicide. Would you go up to that person's mother and tell them that "it's fun to poke crazy people?"

Do I agree with everything that Bo says? No, because we are different people with different points of view. Does she let her perception of people color the way she responds to things? Yes, but don't we ALL?

To Bo: Block these people. They are tiresome to read, and contribute nothing to a meaningful conversation. Also, please stop following YH on Twitter and on her blog. It isn't helping you. You may think that's backing down from a fight, but it's not. It's about preserving your health. You have so many other, worthwhile things to concentrate your energies on.

P.S. I like the socks and the new garden boots. They make me smile. :o)

Bo... said...

Thank you so much, Mel. I appreciate your kind words so much--and your advice is sound. And thank you for your understanding.

Maren said...

Bo, Mel is right you must let this go. Stop reading YH and delete all the nasty comments from your blog. This is just awful and somebody really needs to get a life. You might have an illness and are being treated for it but your anonymous commentor has greater problems than you and does not appear to even realize how sick and nasty she really is.
I can only imagine she has no friends and nobody in her life no one would want to be around her.
Put a stop to it Bo and get rid of them.

Bo... said...

Thank you, Maren. I did stop responding to them except for putting some announcements on Twitter that I will from now on be using the "delete" key over and over. I then got a flood of nasty emails on my email account which also got deleted. It's died down now---I hope it's all over. And thank you for being supportive--it means a whole lot to me, truly.

Mary said...

Way to go, Bo! Leave the garbage outside where it belongs. That kind of negativity is detrimental to one's physical and mental health.
Your creativity reminds me of my high school students when I was teaching them how to knit. Once they learned knit and purl, they were off with their own designs. You've been able to keep that truly original creativity and make it grow. What a treasure! I can't figure out how this sweater is going to end, but I know it will be good. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

Bo... said...

Mary, thank you so very much!!

That's so funny... (odd really, not amusing.) Last night I was trying to leave a comment, but my stupid internet (or even more stupid computer) kept kicking me off. The funny bit, was that I was trying say almost exactly the same thing as Mel and Marin, and was frustrated by the technology. Thanks ladies for saying it for me!

Good for you Bo, for taking their advice, so the blog can go back to being a knitting/life experience thing.

I don't always share your opinions, or knitting taste, but diversity is what makes life interesting, so I appreciate you.
Hope you make it to a lys stitch and bitch soon.

Hi Bohemian Knitter
I also have sent comments under Anonymous simply because I don't want my "stuff" out here in ether land.
I also take exception to being called names and told to FO, being lumped in with others.
Granted I have only commented a couple of times but I felt slapped!
I read your blog and others to see what interesting thingds are out there but if you are going to abuse me this way I will have to drop your blog from my list.

Bo... said...

I'm sorry YI in KS---truly I am---but I was pretty angry at certain Anonymouses, and I guess I accidentally lumped you in with them. Once I've deleted comments I can't get them back, or I'd put you back in. Forgive me?

YI says
how about and update on the LRRH?

Bo... said...

YI: I took a break from the LRRH today to work on a sock pattern I'm designing. It's a pattern with choices of heels/ribbing/colorway, and so I'm knitting two of them with the choices. I've been working on this design for years. But I'll do an update on the LRRH soon. Probably in the next few days.
